Treatment

What to expect during the treatment?

Each acupuncture treatment provides an immediate relaxation. All acupuncture needles are thin, hair-like sterilized and disposable. Usually the treatment is painless, however depending on each individual’s pain tolerance and body’s location one or few needles may give a short “prick” sensation. The pain may stop a minute later on its own. If a patient feels a discomfort at anytime, he/she should notify the practitioner immediately so the needles can be adjusted or removed. This happens infrequently and depends on the practitioner’s technique and gentle touch. Overall, the treatment should be painless and relaxing.

The office divided into 4 individual treatment rooms. Each room is designed to create a cozy, welcoming and spa-like atmosphere where patients can relax and receive optimal benefit from each treatment. The treatment lasts about 30 min to 1 hour depending on the condition. (New patients please expect a longer time during your first appointment.)

It is our priority to ensure that all patients feel comfortable during each treatment. Therefore, the treatment includes a heating table (on request) and foil space blanket to keep patients warm and comfortable during acupuncture sessions.

Marina Doktorman utilizes custom-tailored treatment for each patient. After establishing a TCM diagnosis by objective findings of muscle palpation, meridian evaluation and checking pulse and tongue, acupuncture point combination will be applied. Acupuncture with electro-stimulation may be added depending on a condition. During each acupuncture session, a few drops of 100% pure essential oils are applied on acupuncture points. The unique efficacy of essential oils strengthens acupuncture treatment, providing total relaxation and rejuvenation felt immediately after the treatment.

You may need only a single treatment for an acute condition. A series of five to fifteen treatments may resolve many chronic problems. Some degenerative conditions may require many treatments over time.

Patients often experience the most dramatic results in the first treatment. Some patients experience an immediate total or partial relief of their pain or other symptoms. This relief may last or some pain may return. In a few cases, there may be no immediate relief only for a couple of days. Generally, you should expect to feel better. Since there are no contraindications, acupuncture treatments can be given at the same time other techniques are being used, such as conventional Western medicine, osteopathic or chiropractic adjustments and medical prescriptions.

Minor side-effects of acupuncture treatment may happen, including bruising at a needle site and minor bleeding. This is normal. The bruising will go away after a few days on its own. The risk and benefits of acupuncture are discussed at your first appointment-consultation.
